Barns Courtney

New kid Barns Courtney is starting to attract quite a fanbase with his own unique brand of blues rock. Newly signed to Virgin Records he’s already seen great success with his singles Glitter & Gold and Fire plus debut album The Attractions Of Youth.

I recorded ‘Glitter & Gold’ in a decommissioned old folks home in Tottenham. I wanted it to sound gritty and we didn’t have drums, so we made all the percussion hitting disused filing cabinets, old film cans and stacking scissor snips.

Full name, Barnaby Courtney. He was born to Ipswich but then spent much of his childhood in Seattle. Before striking out as a solo artist, Courtney has been a member of indie outfit SleeperCell.

Following the release of The Dull Drums EP in 2016, his debut album The Attractions Of Youth was released a year later.

He now announces a series of unmissable dates including Manchester Club Academy, Bristol Trinity, Wedgewood Rooms at Portsmouth, Newcastle Riverside, Rescue Rooms at Nottingham, Cambridge Junction and Electric Ballroom in London during October 2019.

Given their massive appeal Barns Courtney tickets are expected to sell out very quickly. Book yours before they are all gone.

Courtney uploaded his music to BBC Music Introducing and ten days later was playing the BBC Introducing live show in his hometown Suffolk.

He was noticed by Carl Barat and was chosen to support The Libertines on tour. Following this he also played support for Ed Sheeran on his tour of the USA.

In 2016, he released his incredible EP Hands which thrilled fans and the music press alike. It has been followed by a second EP The Dull Drums plus his vital debut album The Attractions Of Youth.

Utter triumph!

Love small venues! Support act “Will & the People” were great entertainers as well as vocalists which was an unexpected pleasure. Barns Courtney had amazing energy as well as awesome vocals. Highly recommended!

So much energy!

Didn't stop dancing from start to finish. He was so sweaty! His voice was faultless. I've never heard someone sound so much like their recordings. We thought for a minute he might be miming.

Great energetic gig in an intimate venue

This was a great night - both the support and Barns Courtney were well received by an appreciative, energetic audience. First time at The Exchange for us and it was a good fit for this gig and enabled us to be up close to the band.
